Ginés PARRA (1896-1960) - Lot 283
Ginés PARRA (1896-1960) Women in a landscape Oil on canvas, signed lower center. (Missing and restored). 97 x 150 cm Exhibition: Salon des Indépendants, Paris, April 19 - May 13, 1958, no. 2810 (label on back of stretcher). Ginés Parra was a Spanish painter of the École de Paris. In 1927, he befriended Julio González and Picasso. After a trip to Spain in 1931, he returned to Paris in 1933 and took part in the Spanish pavilion at the Exposition Internationale in 1937. Surprised by the Civil War while in Madrid, Parra was imprisoned in Galicia for several years in 1938. Released, he returned to Paris, where he met René Breteau, who exhibited his work in 1942 and 1948. He took part in group exhibitions of the Spanish School of Paris - notably alongside Picasso - in Paris, Prague, London, Brussels and Stockholm. Shortly after his death in 1960, the Salón de los Independientes dedicated an anthological exhibition to him, and Picasso, along with other friends, founded the Société des amis de Parra. After his death, his works continued to be exhibited in various salons and institutions. Expert for this lot: Mr. Piotr KASZNIA +33 (0) 6 03 34 36 24
