Forge bellows - Lot 61
Forge bellows Luba, Democratic Republic of Congo Traditional forge bellows in wood blackened by the work of the blacksmith. It is finished by a beautiful head with pure lines decorated with scarifications in relief at the corner of the eyes. The bellows is one of the most impressive objects used by blacksmiths. Sculpted from a large piece of wood, it usually has two or four air cavities covered, when used in the forge, with bags of skins that help to control the air by directing it towards the fire. The bellows are activated by an assistant working very hard at the blacksmith's side. 83 x 33 cm.
